Deductible calculator: which level pays off for you? 2026
A high deductible lowers the premium but you pay more yourself when you are ill. We add both up — with the official 2026 premiums for your place of residence.
Frequently asked questions
Which deductibles are available in 2026?
Adults from the age of 19 choose between CHF 300, 500, 1,000, 1,500, 2,000 and 2,500. For children up to 18 the levels are CHF 0, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600. Which levels are actually offered is up to the individual insurer: not every insurer offers every level.
What is the retention fee on top of the deductible?
Once the deductible is used up you pay 10 per cent of any further costs yourself — at most CHF 700 per year for adults and CHF 350 for children up to 18. You cannot pay more in cost sharing than the deductible plus that ceiling.
From what level of medical costs is the highest deductible worthwhile?
That depends on the premium gap between the levels, and the gap differs by insurer, region and age. This calculator therefore does not use a rule of thumb but your own figures: for every deductible it shows premium plus cost sharing, and names the amount at which the ranking flips.
Is the hospital contribution of CHF 15 per day included?
No, deliberately not. Insured persons from the age of 26 pay this contribution towards a hospital stay regardless of the deductible chosen — it therefore does not change the ranking of the deductibles, it only shifts every row by the same amount.
When can I change my deductible?
A change of deductible takes effect at the beginning of a calendar year. The notice periods of Art. 7 KVG apply — in practice this means your notification must have reached the insurer by 30 November. If you also want to change insurer, both must be done within the same deadline.
